How to find out what time you were born

How to find your birth time and birth information for your astrology natal chart - life in the astros

So, you have finally decided to find out what all this “astrology stuff” is about and look up your birth chart, but first you need your birth time and location. Perhaps, instead, you are trying to help someone else find their birth information. Either way, this post will help direct you on finding your birth information which is key to being able to identify the difference between your sign and your big 3 in Astrology

The birth information you will need so you can calculate your astrology birth chart:

  • Date of birth (Month/Day/Year)
  • Time of birth
  • Location of birth (city, state, country)

Where to obtain your birth information

Option 1: Parents or guardians

You can certainly ask your parent(s) or guardians for your time of birth but there is a possibility of error here. Personally, I’ve seen parents mix up morning birth times with evening birth times. Even inputting a time within the same day can create an entirely different chart than your true chart. So, going based on the recollections of your parents can be a starting point but I would double check with the second option below.

Option 2: Birth certificate

Check your birth records or birth certificate for an exact time of birth and location. These should be typed up or printed on hospital forms. Often, you can tell they are official because there is a stamp from the delivering doctor and signature(s) from your parent(s).

Option 3: Scrapbooks or memory books

Many parents like to keep a scrapbook or memory book of their baby so this could be helpful for you now. If you haven’t been able to find any birth certificates elsewhere, check inside the memory books. You might find a copy or original of your birth records. Alternatively, the birth time may simply be written down along with other little facts about your birth. All you need is the birth time.

Option 4: Hospital records

Reach out to the hospital you were born at to obtain a copy of your birth certificate. Some hospitals may keep this in their system but databases are always being updated. They might have only held onto the information temporarily and passed it along to your state offices for holding. That brings us to the next option.

Option 5: State Vital Records Office

In California, the public health department has a sub-department called Vital Records. Here, you can go to request a copy of your birth certificate information. For other states, see if you have an equivalent department. The key is to try contacting the public health department in the county you were born in. You will likely have a fee associated with the request but it will be worth it to know your true birth time!

Option 6: Birth Chart Rectification

Rectification is the process of using milestones, key events, qualities, and the health of the individual to create a birth time. There are astrologers who specialize in this, courses to look into, as well as paid/free software that you can try. I cannot speak to any from personal experience but, when you want to find your birth time, it can be worthwhile to pursue. The free software I have dabbled with is astro-app. Depending on how much information you have about the individual’s life, the site will have its limits in narrowing down a time.

Ideally, if you can get your hands on a birth certificate, that will be your best bet. If none of the other options are suitable, you could still look up your birth chart but the interpretations will be far less specific to you.

Once you have the information, you can now look up your astrology natal chart!!!
